We agree, alcohol can warm you up, and warmth isn’t the first thing on your mind in the summer. But what if we told you that there are brilliant cocktails at Cidade de Goa’s Taverna, Lobby Bar, that are perfect for this weather?

Here are a few that are ideal companions at this time of year:

Piña Colada: It’s got pineapple. It’s got coconut. It’s got ice. Did we mention it has rum too? The Piña Colada has been the national drink of Puerto Rico since 1978. Literally meaning strained pineapple, it is served blended or shaken with ice, topped with a pineapple wedge and maraschino cherry. Stories of its origins date back to a Puerto Rican pirate who gave his crew a concoction of white rum, pineapple and coconut to boost their morale.

Gimlet: This is a classic summer drink. Made of just gin and lime juice, it is refreshing and cooling, singing of summer zest. Variants include the vodka gimlet, or a daiquiri made with rum. Early recipes surfaced as far back as 1852 and the drink is rumoured to have been named after British Rear Admiral Sir Thomas Gimlette who supposedly used it as a way to get his crew to drink lime juice as a counter against scurvy.

Sangria: Wine is certainly stylish, but adding a little fruity flavour can make it fun. Try a watermelon sangria this summer for that sweet, hydrating hint. Sangrias are traditionally made with red wine and chopped fruit, but unconventional bartenders will turn to white wines as well. It dates back to the 18th century and is Spain’s most famous cocktail.

So head over to Cidade de Goa for a range of exquisite sundowners and summer coolers that will surely make you forget it’s hot outside.
